I wake up cloudy and exhausted. Before I even step out of bed the day already feels off. I chug two cups of coffee hoping to wake up. Trying to manage the kids, work, admin — the smallest of hiccups feel overwhelming and insurmountable. I’m grouchy and agitated, bark at everyone, my heart is racing and I can’t focus.
Why giving up my weighing scale was the best decision of my life
I sat naked on the edge of my bathtub and stared at the mirror in front of me. My back slightly hunched over, my breasts full but drooping, my stomach plump and round with crinkled bits of loose skin. I observed intently my middle-aged body. Still youthful in some places but certainly far from where it was a decade ago.
I grabbed the pouch of fat that pooled in my mid-section. Gave it a squeeze and let go. I smiled at myself, because for the first time in my whole life, I was truly happy.
It’s barely 2 p.m. and my chest feels tight. My head is pounding and my body is heavy. My heart thumps loudly, reverberating across my upper body. I am both exhausted and wired. My mind is racing at a thousand miles a minute, but is at the same time kind of glassy and void. I am cranky and unproductive. And, frankly, unkind. When I feel this way, I know the reason is often simple. I didn’t get enough sleep.
I remember coming home and the morning sun was glaring down at me. My alarm had rung barely an hour after I had gotten to bed. My eye makeup was smeared across my cheek, my hair a bloody mess; I pulled myself together and did my best to look presentable. I had to take my boys to a gingerbread house-making activity. To say I was hungover is probably false. I was more likely still drunk from the previous night’s festivities.
5 foods to add to your plate to boost your health in 2024
Food is a powerful medicine. It’s one of the few beautiful things in this world that truly nourishes. While most people think of cleaning up their diet as “taking away” or “removing items” or “limiting calories,” I love the idea of adding more.
One of my favorite quick meals that’s high in protein and super flavorful! Savory mussels in a rich aromatic red curry sauce perfect for dipping with crusty bread.
A light and vibrant carrot salad loaded with lots of crunch! Tangy, zesty, sweet, and fragrant. This is a simple but veryyyy addicting addition to any meal; hormones balancing, great for glowing skin, full of antioxidants and fiber – what’s there not to love!!!
Come for recipe – stay for the cheese!! But seriously, what I love about shrimp is it’s an easy way to get clean healthy protein into your diet. Since we’re using rice paper this makes it a gluten free version of hakaw
Crunchy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, this Crispy Malunggay Falafel recipe is made with even more nutrients! Breastfeeding mommas know the benefits!
